Puducherry – Give Time a Break

Puducherry – Give Time a Break

The French Riviera of India- serene, beautiful and peaceful. I fall short of words as I begin to describe my experience of Puducherry or Pondicherry as many people still call it.

Pondicherry is one of Indian Union Territories. The natives speak Tamil and French. You’ll easily come across many French couples who have settled here for years and have excellent home-stay facilities at very affordable rates. If you really want to experience something different I’d suggest you go for such homestays atleast for a day and interact with them, listen to their stories, may be have a glass of wine together.

Beaches, food, wine – what is not there to love. Pondicherry in itself feels like a beautiful poetry- tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. Those porch style restaurants where you can just sit and idle away for hours lost in the serenity of the place.

As I mentioned the food here is amazing, just go to any cafe in the French part of town and you won’t be disappointed. The colonial villas, the architecture – just roaming around in those streets either on foot or on a two wheeler( which you can easily hire at 300 Rs per day) is another experience altogether.

Sunset at the beach, a quiet evening at Aurobindo ashram will wash away all the stress of your hectic city life.

There are many water sports that are available here, I’d suggest you to go for scuba diving if you are not planning a trip to Andamans or Maldives soon 😉

Will come up soon with a post on must try foods and places in pondicherry and how to plan a cost effective trip.

Till then,

Happy Tripping!
